Crawley is a place that just keeps getting better. A major economic hub, and home to key organisations including Gatwick Airport, it continues to offer sustained growth, high quality employment opportunities and a great quality of life. Despite the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic we are working closely with local residents and business to help them emerge from these challenges stronger.
As one of the first New Towns, Crawley was planned to reflect the beautiful Sussex countryside that surrounds the town, offering a particularly pleasant environment in which to live and work. Read more about Crawley’s New Town History.
The town is divided into a series of residential neighbourhoods around the town centre, each with its own schools, shops and community facilities.
Crawley has 120,000 residents and is the largest inland town in West Sussex. It is home to a host of multi-national businesses who benefit from excellent air, rail and road links.
City bid
This year, Crawley celebrates its 75th anniversary as a New Town. The town entered the Civic Honours competition, part of The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
Whilst we were not successful, our city bid submission document provides a great explanation of how unique and special Crawley is as a place to work and live.
